Report

A frustrating game saw Wandle Wanderers lose 2-4 at home to  Junior Bromleians FC – the first home defeat of 2012.

With team selection limited by Jack being away, Wayne started the game with the usual line-up which saw:

Goalkeeper – Sam

Defence – Tyrese, Kiernan and Neo

Midfield – Dante and Rashaun

Forward – Alex.

Junior Bromleians FC made the early running and forced Sam into a early save from a long shot. Within a minute the visitors were at it again with another long shot that flew wide. The early kick-off meant a low sun shining directing into the Wandle goal mouth . This persuaded the Junior’s Coach to order his team to shot on site in an attempt to catch at Sam and the Wandle defence.

Wandle struggled to get a grip and after 5 minutes yet another long shot from the Bromleians was saved by Sam.

Wandle forced their first corner after 10 minutes which saw Alex drive just wide.

As the first half developed it was the Bromleians who were pressing. Last ditch tackling from Tyrese, Neo and Kieran kept the forwards at bay but the pressure was increasing.

After 20 minutes a Bromleians corner flew wide but the signs were looking bad. Sure enough the Bromleians made the first break through. A long ball down the left was chased down by the Bromleians winger. The ball had crossed over the by-line but was not seen by the referee. Wandlke switche doff as the cross came over and two Bromleians were left unmarked to fired the ball home.

24 MINUTES: Wandle 0 – 1 Junior Bromleians FC

The disputed goal inspired the Wanderers as straight from the kick-off Alex broke free and fed Rashaun. His low drive found the corner of the net to make it 1-1.

25 MINUTES: Wandle 1 – 1 Junior Bromleians FC

Wayne kept the same formation for the start of the 2nd half.

Immediately Bromleians hit Wandle on the break and two free forwards forced a fine save from Sam. Within a minute Sam was forced into another save as Bromleians continued their shoot on sight policy. Wandle hit back and a 1-2 between Alex and Neo saw Alex fire just wide.

5 minutes into the 2nd half Bromleians were awarded the first of a number of free-kicks just outside the box. Their tactic of firing into a crowded penalty box saw Sam parry out a pile driver that was cleared by Kieran.

6 minutes into the half Tyrese intercepted a clearance from the Bromleians defence and fed Alex. The keeper was drawn and a fine chip into the bottom corner saw Wandle take a 2-1 lead.

6 MINUTES: Wandle 2 – 1 Junior Bromleians FC

Immediately Bromleians responded and another long free-kick was cleared off the Wandle line. Within a minute another free-kick flew into the side netting and a third free-kick within a minute was saved by Sam.

The pressure was again mounting and after 9 minutes fine forward play saw a Bromleian beat the Wandle defence and fire a low drive home.

9 MINUTES: Wandle 2 – 2 Junior Bromleians FC

The Bromleians turned up the pressure in the 2nd half and successive corners forced fine clearances from Neo, Dante and Tyrese. Sam was forced into another save but it was only a matter of time before the pressure paid dividends.

After 15 minutes a Bromleians break saw unmarked players in the box, one who slotted home the third goal.

15 MINUTES: Wandle 2 – 3 Junior Bromleians FC

Bromleians kept up the pressure and forced more corners.

After 23 minutes a poor clearance fell to a Bromleians 5 yards from goal who made no mistake from close range. The match was lost.

23 MINUTES: Wandle 2 – 4 Junior Bromleians FC

The final few minutes saw Kiernan break through the Bromleian midfield but he was crowded out by the defence.

Soon afterwards the whistle blew and Bromelians were good value for their win. For his goal and assist Alex was awarded the Man of the Match.
