Report

The U9s final home game of the season saw an unexplainable 3-0 defeat at the hands of Coney Hall, unexplainable as Wandle had numerous chances and dominated possession and yet again suffered a cruel defeat.

Wayne named an attacking line-up with just 2 at the back so the starting line-up was:

Goalkeeper – Sam

Defence – Neo and Tyrese

Midfield- Kieron, Rashaun and Dante

Forward – Alex

The U9s began the game at a fast pace with Alex and Rashaun unsettling the Coney Hall defence. Sam wasn’t forced into a save until the 8th minute when he dealt well with a long shot. Within a minute Sam was again called into action as Coney began to get into the game. Coney Hall wasted a further chance after 12 minutes when a clean run on goal saw the Coney forward shoot wide. Alex continued to occupy the minds of the Coney defence and won a corner after 15 minutes which resulted in Kieron shooting just wide.

After 20 minutes Sam pulled off three saves within seconds as Coney again increased the pressure. Ty and Neo were dealing with the quick forwards of Coney and as half approach, however from a corner the ball was failed to be cleared by Wandle and Coney scored from 1 yard.

24 MINUTES – Wandle 0 – 1 Coney Hall

There was still time for Sam to save from a deflected shot and Alex to force the Coney keeper into a save.

HALF TIME  Wandle 0 – 1 Coney Hall

Wayne made some tactical changes for the start of the 2nd half. Kieron went into defence, Neo joined midfield along with Alex while Jack replaced Dante and played up front.

Within a minute good work by Alex saw Jack hit the post from close range. The Wandle pressure increased with Alex, Jack, Rashaun and Neo all pressing and forcing last ditch defending from Coney.

After 15 minutes a mix up from a Wandle goal kick saw Coney shoot into the net to make it 2-0.

15 MINUTES Wandle 0 – 2 Coney Hall

Within seconds Coney Hall was back on the attack and Sam was called upon to make a fine save at the foot of the post. Far from being downhearted Wandle fought back and piled forward in search of a goal. Alex had a fine dribble and cross shot and further efforts saw the goalkeeper pull off fine saves. Despite constant pressure the final goal again came from Coney. A free-kick was driven into the box and hit a Coney forward to make it 3-0.

24 MINUTES  Wandle 0 – 3 Coney Hall

There was still time for Ty to hit the bar from close range and everyone involved then realised the footballing gods were not with Wandle today.

Moments later the ref blew the whistle on a fine game and a undeserved 3-0 defeat. Wayne and parents were left scratching their heads. Sam had pulled off fine saves; Ty had a excellent game in defence and also got his first goal; Neo and Kieron had fine games in both defence and midfield; Rashaun was everywhere while Jack and Dante kept the ball moving to Alex who had the Coney defence on their toes all game. Alex was awarded Man of the Match for another fine performance. The team now take an Easter break before the final game of the season at Orpington on 15th April.
