An excellent second half performance see's Wandle through to the next round of the London Cup.
In torrential conditions (like last year), Wandle made the trip to East London with no keeper and the bare 11 players against Prostar, the team which knocked Wandle out of the London Cup. This fixture was marred by the creative refereeing, and with an official referee this match was going to judged on the football being played.
Wandle made a disastrous start and found themselves a goal behind in the first minute. Some lapse defending allowed a Prostar player to have a shot on goal, with the ball ending up low in the corner. The goal gave Prostar the impetuous and Wandle although trying to play football in the conditions, were being overrun in the majority of the areas on the pitch. As the half progressed, Wandle were beginning to adapt to the conditions and pace, and started to create a few half chances.
At the break, Prostar were deserved leaders at 1 – 0, the Wandle management made some tactical changes, Danny was replaced in goal with Che, both players done very well for their team in the challenging conditions, well done to both of you!
The second half was a total different game, Wandle came out and showed tremendous character and purpose. It was no surprise when Wandle equalised, a Kiye shot was parried into the path of the oncoming Josh, who placed the ball in the far corner, for his first of the season. The second goal followed shortly, Ifeayni and Danny worked the ball well down the wing, before Danny crossed hard and low, the ball was deflected into the net by a Prostar defender.
Wandle were now in control of the game, and began to create waves of chances, the third goal came after a strike by Morgan hit the woodwork, then Ifeayni riffled a shot, which the keeper parried, before Jermaine pounced onto the loose ball and coolly placing the ball in the back of the net.
Wandle now 3 – 1 up, midway through the second half, were not done yet! A forth soon followed when Josh played in Morgan, who finished from 6 yards out.
Prostar, pulled one back when a misplace pass was pounced upon and a Prostar player was able to run through onto goal before putting the ball in the back of net, via a deflection. The goal could have been stopped, if players were concentrating on their positioning.
Any hope of Prostar getting back into the game were short lived, some good individual play by Morgan set up Ifeayni, who swivelled with his back towards goal and exquisitely finished low in the corner.
